  • Caption: Today, the amount of time that children spend in front of a computer screen has drastically increased from previous decades. This, combined with television viewing and other 'screen time,' such as playing video games, precludes a child from physical activity and is often when children are barraged with advertisements for junk foods. It is estimated that a child views over 40,000 TV ads per year. A child watching Saturday morning television may see one food commercial every five minutes, with most featuring minimally nutritious foods such as candy, sugared cereal and fast foods.
